MARK J. WERKSMAN: As a criminal lawyer, I have to have a unique bond of trust and confidence with my client. And I always seek to develop that because we can't win a case unless we have the full confidence and trust of our client. And our client will never feel comfortable unless they know that they can count on us. We're a small firm. And we have lawyers who have expertise in some very specialized fields, such as taxation and writs and appeals that allow us to handle whatever issues arise in a criminal case and the collateral issues that sometimes arise. We often have clients who have professional licenses that are endangered or threatened by a criminal investigation or prosecution. And we can defend your license. And we can participate in the administrative proceedings or the regulatory proceedings that might accompany a criminal case because of our strong background in that area of law as well. Most of the attorneys in this firm, including myself, started our careers as prosecutors.

And so we've been on the other side. And we know how the prosecutors make their filing decision and what kind of tactics they employ. That type of knowledge, based upon our personal experience as former prosecutors, is often invaluable in helping mount an effective defense for our clients.
